Shout out to our brother Alex Friend for all of the dedication he put into the difficult, but rewarding task of being Dance Marathon’s 2011-2012 Overall Director! That is virtue and diligence at its finest.

Dance Marathon is a 18 hour long event where over 600 students dance all night long to help raise funds for Mercy Children’s Hospital in downtown Toledo which is in association with the Children’s Miracle Network. Since 2001, students, faculty, family, and friends have come together to raise $398,928.04. In 2011, The University of Toledo Dance Marathon raised $59,183.00! This money has all gone directly to Mercy Children’s Hospital for new research and technology needed to uphold the standard of care for the kids.

We will be honoring Brian Towns and Brad Towns as our Career Achievement Winners and Mathew Hagemeyer as our Volunteer Excellance Award. Reminder: the annual alumni/senior appreciation dinner is on Tuesday April 24th at the Blarney (601 Monroe Street  Toledo, OH).  Cocktails start at 6. Three active brothers have come forward and said that they are in need of a pin (pins are quite expensive now).  If you have a pin or other SigEp memorabilia that you would like to donate to someone in the active chapter, please let Tim Croak know. The alumni board would like to present items to the undergraduate chapter at the Alumni/Senior Dinner on April 24. Even if you cannot attend the dinner, please consider donating your old items.

The annual alumni/senior appreciation dinner is coming up on Tuesday April 24th at the Blarney (601 Monroe Street  Toledo, OH).  Cocktails start at 6. Please let Tim Croak or Ted Behnken know if you will be able to come.  The cost is $20.  This year we will be honor the chapters winning the golden Buchanan Cup, the homecoming float competition, and sweeping the Dean Parks awards.  We will also be honoring our alumni award winners.

Unfortunately, Ohio Iota didn’t place this year. We still put on a good show though!

Saturday March 24 was The BIG Event at The University of Toledo. The BIG Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project where students of The University of Toledo come together to say “Thank you” once a year. Forty six brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon volunteered and were delegated into four different sites. The number of participants for BIG Event increased from 660 registered last year to 1100 registered this year – a huge success. SigEp Daniel Janisz is going to be overall director of it next year.
